Christmas Lights

Last Sunday evening, the bike club and many of the bike commuting community in Ft Wayne area met downtown for the Christmas lights ride. It was a 16 mile ride that weaved through downtown, then out to Franke Park for the Festival of Lights drive. Unfortunately, my camera battery again died before we got out there. The cold seems to quickly drain what little life remains in it.

It was fun taking to the streets, being a part of a large, courteous mass of bikers.

This is the Santa that has adorned the side of the old Fort Wayne National Bank (now PNC) building since it was built in 1970. Before that, it was in storage for many years in a barn north of town.

Jump ahead to today, Christmas day. This is the much-anticipated trainer Santa brought me.

And this is the Big Oak Bikes Fitness Center. It's located right next door to the Big Oak Bike Shop.

I also got a new jersey. I tested it today in 43 degree weather. Very warm for this time of year, and sunny, too. The jersey worked great, with a long-sleeved undershirt and a light windvest on top.

I hope all of you had a great and peaceful Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas!!

It looks as if Santa was very nice to you this year. Not only for the gifts, but also for giving you the company on the 16 mile ride. That's excellent.

Thanks for the post!!

I've spent many hours pedaling in my garage. Since then I've gotten away from formal training and discovered wool. So I just try to ride through winter as best I can.

I'd be interested in hearing how you manage mental side of those garage adventures.

rlove2bike - you're welcome! I also received a book about biking - I'll do a post on that after I'm finished reading it.

Pondero - Yes, it will be interesting to hear how I manage. I was concerned about losing aerobic conditioning and muscle mass through the winter, since I'm not riding outside nearly enough. But it's hard to call time on the trainer bicycling. It's just running blood through the system. But better than sitting watching tv.

Have a wonderful holiday.
My trainer collects dust these days but more power to you for jumping aboard! My best recollection was that 10 minutes on it felt like 2 hours ;) Hope you have lots of inspiration!
Cheers!

Bill, nice outfit! Looks and sounds identical to what my getup is this winter. Enjoyed the pics of you with your buds and glad you are having a good Christmas.

I have the same rack on my bike. Do you have any blackburn front racks that you do not want?
